Workplace safety

All background talent needs to pass the Online Safety Course to be allowed on the set of a film, show, or commercial.

The course takes between 15-20 minutes to complete and informs you about the health and safety protocols of the industry.

You also learn your basic rights as an extra such as the right to refuse unsafe working conditions.

Everyone needs to complete the course if they want to work as a background performer.  It is mandatory and required by the government.

Below is the link to the training for background actors and extras:

In the event a performer is not able to do the online training, they can carry the booklet with them, as proof that they have completed that health and safety awareness module.

Bring a photocopy of this certificate with you each time you go to a new set. As a backup, I would suggest taking a picture of it and keeping it on your phone.  Ontario Talent Agency will not be keeping these copies for you.

As of July 1st, a hard copy of the certification of the Online Safety Course through the Ministry of Labour is required to work in Ontario.

This is the law – this is not optional. Production wants a copy of this certification from every employee, including BG performers.
